43 YEARS of Impact in Hamilton
In Hamilton and surrounding areas, more than 3,000 individuals with intellectual disabilities are on waiting lists for housing and/or support. Since 1978 L'Arche Hamilton, a registered Canadian charity, has been part of this city, providing support to those with intellectual disabilities (whom we call our Core Members) and seeking to make known their many gifts and talents. Our impact includes:
- 22 Core members in five L’Arche Hamilton homes located in the close-knit neighbourhood of Sherman Hub, including a supported independent living (SIL) bungalow for three ladies;
- A vibrant day program -- our Creative Hands Art Studio -- for those with intellectual disabilities living throughout the city;
- Active participation in our neighbourhood and city! We give back, volunteering in local schools, coffee shops, art galleries and our BIA; We're even running our own Inclusion CoffeeHouse now!
- Field placements for nursing, recreational, social & community service interns from McMaster, Mohawk, Redeemer, Waterloo and more

L'Arche in the World
We create communities with a culture of shared lives between people with and without intellectual disabilities, from which we can work together to build a more human society. Mutual relationships & trust in God are at the heart of our journey. |
Circles of Support
We celebrate people with intellectual disabilities and build circles of support around them. We go beyond supporting people's basic needs. It is this focus on building relationships and cultivating a sense of belonging that makes us different. |
Diversity & Inclusion
L’Arche communities around the world share a common philosophy and approach while reflecting and celebrating the ethnic, cultural and religious composition of the areas in which they exist. All faiths and non-faiths are welcome. |
